A Special Message to the World.

“As we start 2014, it is time that people understand that there is only one race on the Earth – the Human Race. Therefore, the artificial barriers and divisions that exist must be eliminated, for the World to live as One.

We are all going around together, and we must share a collective responsibility not only to protect the planet, but to make human existence one free of hunger, poverty, war and many of the other global issues.

Human consciousness needs to rise to this level of awareness for Human existence to attain a higher level. The fact that millions of children die from hunger and poverty every year does not paint a positive picture and negates human development, which seems to be measured solely by technological development. ” By AJA

In Loving Memory of Nelson Mandela

In our smiles we have all seen the world’s children raised to open
their arm’s and embrace the future within a glorious freedom.
A light of knowledge you have shed
to help to see us through the days as never-ending dark deceit still
cowering within racism’s rawness as hatred’s blindness has burdened us
too long in this dark time’s age.
If in fervent striving, we have found heart’s fuller destiny beyond all decay.
We need only open up windows
and let our new breeze come to drift in and hope for a brilliant new
dawn to rise that never stops its filling smile.
For sun will sparkle forever its golden glow upon every once darkened soul.

What is a Poetathon? A timed Poetathon is when poets read one after the other and the total amount of time is recorded and compared to other readings.

For years, World Poetry has been doing timed Poetathons at different events.

We have had three successful World Poetry Canada International Peace Festivals with a number of national and international participants attending, numerous poetry and photo displays as well as at least 6oo free gift peace poems that have been given to the public in the promotion of peace.

On October 23rd, 2013, 6:30 pm at the New Westminster Public Library, we will celebrate the official launch of on our World Poetry Canada and International Peace Poetathon and our Fourth World Poetry New Westminster Night-out Celebration. We will begin a one year initiative on focusing, creating and maintaining peace around the world.

My Father is an Afghan Man. Happy Father’s Day by Alaha Ahrar.

By worldpoetry on June 18, 2013 - 2:28pm

Ariadne’s Note: This letter from Alaha Ahrar, one of our World Poetry family is full of wisdom and history. It is a moving tribute to her Afghan father and to all fathers on this day.

My Father is an Afghan Man

Happy Father’s Day

Today many Americans celebrate Father’s Day. As I Think of such an amazing day, I start remembering all the kindness, love and support that my father has given to all of his children during very tough situation in Afghanistan to this day.

I always try to inform as many people as I can about the generosity, courage and magnificence of Afghan men. Most people all over the world are very good at judging and generalize the issues that many countries face. As a result, many people have negative stereotypes about Afghan men. They believe that all Afghan men cut the nose and ears of their wives and daughters or that they imprison or kill their wives, or that they do not allow their female family members to go outside their houses or that they do not let women to get an education.

All Afghan men are not evil or cruel!
