Newbie question on posting images

Hi all, I know how to upload an image and write something about it, but how do I say add a picture next to a blog entry. I tried the 'using a special syntax' but that did not work for me. Is there a way to just cut and paste a picture. Sorry for the ignorance, newbie here...awesome site to have for locals.
