Canucks Hockey ... it's coming !!!

Canucks Hockey - it's coming!

'Stadium' stations are curiously named. Back in the days of yore, I would go and see concerts at Wembley Arena and even sports events at the old Wembley Stadium. Wembley Park Underground (ironic on two counts) Station was in fact a country mile from the Stadium/Arena. On a slightly smaller scale Vancouver has the same approach, placing the 'Stadium' Skytrain Station a fair walk from the actual venue. I remember being a tourist in the city and getting the Skytrain from Granville to Stadium to go and see the Canucks. I wondered then if we actually ended up further away from the game than when we got on at Granville. To be fair, calling it Stadium/Chinatown is a step in the right direction. That is unless you actually want the Stadium (which is in the other direction). Foolishly I expected a Stadium station to be at ... the Stadium. I didn't read signs, but I did struggle when I couldn't immediately spot the Stadium when I came out of station. The struggle was short-lived though, as it was back at Wembley, we just followed the crowd. Someone in there must know where the Stadium is! ...Originally posted on the MooseHat Blog on Oct 2nd, 2007

"Ironic on two counts" - nice, that one gave this former Harlesden/Willesden boy a bit of a laugh :-)

are you daft?

go down the stairs at STADIUM/CHINATOWN and you're across the street from gm place and 5 blocks from chinatown.

go up the stairs and it's a 1 block walk across the viaduct to the garage and another 7 to chinatown.

twit.

Twit maybe ... so how come I ended up following lots of folks with Canucks shirts on that went, on the basis you suggest, the long way round?

It sounds like you know where you are going, and thankfully so do I now. At that time, I was new to the city and still trying to figure out why you would call a transit system a 'sky' train when it appeared to be underground, the directions were not clear.

I will have the pleasure of visiting the big white elephant, sorry BC Place, tomorrow night. This time I'm walking and not using the skytrain!
