Mountain Equipment Co-op makes news....

Mountain Equipment Co-op makes news....

By Ray on December 7, 2007 - 11:08am

Canada.com today tells us: Mountain Equipment Co-op has become the first major Canadian retailer to stop selling products that contain the controversial chemical bisphenol A.

Once again, our home-grown and now internationally famous M.E.C. is taking the initiative, and pulling products from its shelves that are incompatible with its
healthy lifestyle persona. Good on MEC !

...do you know if our upcoming "official Olympic plastic drinking bottles" our dedicated Olympic volunteers will be drinking from are laced with bisphenol A?
Maybe someone from VANOC can tell us after checking with their made in China supplier.

Evidently, this chemical bisphenol A is used to create these hard, glass-like
plastics, not only used for drinking glasses or sports water bottles, but here's
the question:- are the large 5-gallon US bulk delivery water bottles used in many
homes and offices also made with that chemical? Should those be changed as well?
I don't know, but their physical characteristics are much the same as those other
smaller containers which are now being pulled from the market. Does anyone know?
