Canucks Fire General Manager Brian Burke

By Richard Eriksson on May 3, 2004 - 6:24pm

This is news I first saw reported on a weblog: Tom Benjamin says he's suprised to see Brian Burke get fired by owner John McCaw, and Eric at Off Wing Opinion is suprised too. Tom says it looks like a business decision, not a hockey decision:

Stanley McCammon fired Pat Quinn, hired Mike Keenan and was at loggerheads with Brian Burke from his very first day. I'm not very comfortable with his review or its outcome. I'm never comfortable when a non-hockey person makes a stupid decision about a hockey team.Brian Burke Canned

Eric says another hockey team stands to benefit:

Burke did a great job reconstructing the Canucks and turning them into one of the top flight teams in the West. Now it looks like he'll have that opportunity again someplace else.Burke Out In Vancouver

An image from Arash

By Boris Mann on May 3, 2004 - 11:12am

I wanted to point out that we've had our first external image addition. Check out Arash Eftekhari's personal image gallery (you can check out his local user profile). He's got a great picture of some West End buildings on a foggy Vancouver day.

Every member account on Urban Vancouver can upload as many as 25 images of up to a couple of megabytes in size. By default, they show up in your personal image gallery, which is accessible from your user profile.

I've also added Arash's blog to the local feeds. Arash immigrated to Canada in June of last year -- hope to see more from you here on Urban Vancouver, Arash!

Frontier Camper in Kits

If you live in the Arbutus Walk area of Kitsilano, you have seen this camper around at various free parking spots. Obviously the owner needs a real parking spot :-) !
